Our Safeguarding Statement

Grafham Grange Special Educational Trust aims to promote the welfare of and to safeguard all children and young people who use its services. The Trust and its school's work to the principles embodied within the Children Act 1989, Guidance published by DfES Safeguarding Children - Guidance about Child Protection arrangements for the Education Service (2004), the Framework for the Assessment of Children in Need and their Families (2000) and Working Together to Safeguard Children (1999).

We welcome our responsibilities under Sections 175 and 176 of the Education Act 2002 to have policies and procedures that safeguard and promote the welfare and rights of all pupils. All the trustees, governors and staff of Grafham Grange Special Educational Trust share an objective to help keep the children safe by contributing to:

  • Providing a safe environment for them to learn
  • Identifying children who are suffering or likely to suffer significant harm and taking appropriate action with the aim of making sure that they are kept safe both at home and within our schools.

To achieve this objective, we:

  • Aim to prevent unsuitable people from working with the children
  • Promote safe practice and challenge any poor or unsafe practice
  • Identify instances where there are grounds for concern about a child's welfare and initiate or take appropriate action to keep them safe
  • Contribute to effective partnership working between all those involved in providing services for our children

All our staff, governors and volunteers receive training on safeguarding and this training is refreshed annually. Within our schools, the health, safety and well-being of every child is our paramount concern. We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. Our aim is that children and their families will enjoy the time they have with us as pupils in our schools.

We want to work in partnership with our parents and carers to help your child to achieve their full potential and make a positive contribution. On rare occasions our concern about a child may mean that we have to consult other agencies even before we contact our parents. The procedures, which we follow, have been laid down by the Local Children's Safeguarding Boards, and the Trustees have adopted a Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy for the safety of all.

If you want to know more about our procedures or the policy, please speak to our Head of Children's Services. Copies of our policies are freely available
